A Gradual Return The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers". Musical Talent and Access Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition. Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert. "Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills. Generations Gathering Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said. Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras. That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities. Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design. The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us." The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
