First-choice XI

The goalkeeper Not a save to make during the opening 45 before tested from an opponent's curling effort. One well-timed sliding intervention against Qazim Laci demonstrated excellent reading of the game. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Challenged against the opposition's primary attacker in Hoxha. Operated in a central role early on but moved out wide once a teammate entered the fray. 7/10

John Stones Pushed forward when in possession, a familiar role before. Sometimes seemed hesitant in possession and the tactic discontinued at half-time. 6

Dan Burn A nuisance at set pieces, per usual, could serve as another option to his teammate in defense instead of paired with him. One wayward ball in the second half nearly resulted in a goal from Albania. 6

Nico O’Reilly Another composed showing by the rising star after his debut against another side. A teammate failed to make full advantage of a clever flick behind the opposing backline. The role is his to lose already. 7

The newcomer A debut start with the national team. A bit sloppy in possession though his dangerous corners were a threat. A handy pace-controller for the boss to utilize against sides that sit back. Cautioned for a poorly timed foul. 6

Declan Rice Deliveries from corners and set-plays created chances. Enjoyed license to roam on the left but was in an offside position as the pass came with a chance to score. Given a well-earned rest around the 60-minute point. 6/10

The star midfielder Functioned in an advanced role down the right and also did plenty of the hard yards. Showed glimpses of brilliance but dragged a shot over. Replaced in the closing stages for Rogers, his rival, following a yellow card. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Had the team's best chance before halftime, his effort smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. As Quansah staying deep, he had to provide width out wide yet his deliveries from the touchline were inconsistent. Replaced late in the match. 6/10

The captain The match-winner netting two more finishes for his country. The opener a classic close-range tap-in and his next a superb finish with his head following a clever run from his marker. Now 32, he continues to improve and England stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament with him leading the line. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to make an impact on the left flank. Was presented with a good opening after being played in from a teammate but the keeper denied him. His replacement had a greater effect in his place. 5/10

• Rogers (replacing the star with minutes remaining) Too brief a spell to affect things, 6/10
