The distinguished British actress Dame Helen, currently recipient of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, Golden Globe wins, five Emmy Awards, plus a Tony, will soon receive another major award to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award. Award Event The actress, 80, formerly made a dame in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will pick up the accolade at an event January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes take place, during an event billed by the Golden Globes as Golden Eve. Additionally featuring the presentation of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for small-screen contributions, the honoree for which has yet to be announced. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson. “Dame Helen represents a powerhouse performer, and her professional journey is nothing short of remarkable,” said the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to award her the DeMille prize.” Notable Roles Mirren rose to fame during the seventies with key roles in theater in the West End of London and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films including O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday. During the nineties, her starring role in the crime series Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls. She won an Oscar for her role as Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a character she reprised back in 2013 in The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan about the meetings with the Queen and prime minister Thatcher, and for which Mirren won a Tony in 2015. Current and Forthcoming Appearances Subsequent cinematic works include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration. Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is building about her portrayal as an ailing family head in Winslet’s first directing effort, Goodbye June. In the coming year, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland. Golden Globe nominations will be announced on 8 December, featuring Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
